CASE STUDY
Chevy High Desert
Challenge
Design, engineer and test a fully functioning cargo management system to mirror the Chevy Avalanche. Develop an effective process, including material and vendor selections.
Responsible for transparent project management throughout the program.
DESIGN & ENGINEERING
Aesthetic matching of diverse materials: PC/ABS, TPO, ABS
PRE-TOOL TESTING
FEA Analysis, Shrink Calculations
SOURCING AND ASSEMBLY
Electrical system including wire harnesses, lighting and electrically actuated latch/lock. Special provisions for eliminating water and dust intrusion into the bed featuring several seals and end molds along with one-way drains.
Overview
Working as an extension of our OEM customer’s engineering group, Penda created an aesthetically pleasing, fully sealed cargo management solution for their pickup truck bed.
The program’s finished components included six key finished components, with a total of 154 mating components.
FINISHED COMPONENTS
- Bed protection
- Tonneau cover system
- Pillar covers
- Bed dividers
- Remote keyless entry storage units
- Additional tie-downs
Solution
The final solution included over 154 assembled components. A unique mix of manufacturing solutions were chosen for both form and function. Light weight thermoformed and injection molded plastics were used for durability and proven weather resistance. Stamped and extruded components seamlessly streamlined the aesthetic from the original truck frame. Air foil assembly and storage bin assembly were required to fit the specifications.
BENEFIT
Penda was able to scale vertically to support a complex program well beyond the traditional manufacturing scope. Steering diverse programs to the last detail, including FEA analysis, shrink calculations, anticipated test results were preformed pre-tool to manage costs.
Results
Penda delivered the customer a complete program on time and on budget. Leveraging their world class design and engineering, process management expertise, vertical integrations and assembly capabilities.
